Sustainer

Crouched, huddled, humbled

Cowering in grief and loneliness

Hunched over, enveloped in darkness

Afraid, ashamed and alone;

Albeit desirous of great comfort, forgiveness, connection,

Emancipation, peace, deliverance

And yet, I hear a voice.

Soothing, inaudible – yet not.

Distinct, definitive, refreshing

Dare I turn?

Dare I look upward?

Dare I risk vulnerability?

Light?

I must!

I can no longer live in fear and uncertainty.

This is not living.

Rolling, unraveling

Standing, turning, reaching

The Voice is Light, and Rock, and Mountain Height

Where the eagle rests,

Out of reach of any who would prevail in the valley

Still the voice calls.

I am drawn, but I cannot reach.

I whisper.

I breathe afresh

Deeply, drawing in refreshment

Expelling all that would hinder

I call aloud to the Voice, the Rock, the Height above all.

Desperate, pleading, repenting of all that has been my own;

All that has left me entailed to the dark of fear and shame

I am lifted up,

On eagle wings,

To lofty peak,

In crevice rest.

Above

Beyond

Safe

Free

Untouchable by darkness

I see the Light shine on me.

Unhindered view

The warmth of wings – of comfort

The security of Rock – fortress

I sleep in peace

Nourishment is sweet

No fear of abandonment

The Voice, ever present

Only when He has prepared me

Shall we go on from here

Together

One

The Sustainer and the sustained

From Rules To Relationships -Tom Wall

Matthew 9:14-17   Jeremiah 10:1-7

Some quotes, and possibly some are my reflections.

We like to be free but we like our traditions.

Rituals can be performed without Jesus at the centre of it all.

Doing things for the sake of the things, or the doing themselves, misses the point.

We don’t understand the inward focus because we’re too busy with the outward focus.

We fast for something we don’t have, and long for. Longing for intimacy with God? Fast from those things which hide my longing; fast until my longing is fulfilled – with his presence.

Perfect Love, Casting Fear

Perfect love, casts out fear.

All your plans for me are good.

You will all my boundaries keep.

I will step where you have stood.

Help my unbelief, while trusting.

Even others, in your will decide.

You will still meet my provision.

See you working from the other side.

It’s hard! It’s hard! You know I want to.

You know I know you’re making sweet.

Everything works accordingly to,

Your purpose, pleasure; all complete.

I’ll never understand how coming

To your perfect good must be

So painful, cloudy, all-confusing.

Exhausted, lonely, messy me.

I know that faith is like a muscle;

Work it, stretch it, push, increase.

But adding onto faith and virtue’s

Not all that it’s cracked up to be.

And even Christ in humanness

Requested, if there ever be

A way to vict’ry over darkness

Other than what he could see.

But in his asking, full submission.

Never did he seek escape.

From end and goal, stayed fully focused,

On my release from my death state.

You’ve never said you like to punish!

Or see us with pain, inflicted on.

But when there is no other passage,

To life and light, then struggle comes.

I want to have an end-goal focus.

I cannot see those in between.

Lead me to the painful, joyful.

As all is goodness, unforeseen.

Forgiveness, Repentance

Repentance is the means by which one accepts forgiveness already offered.

Not the means by which forgiveness is earned.

Forgiveness is a gift given; not a right deserved; nor a commodity bought.

Repentance is the way in which one holds out their own hand to accept the gift of forgiveness offered freely.

Forgive. Repent. Accept. Be changed.

Ezekiel 33

Turn, O turn! Everyone turn

Who has been turned away

Return, restore, give back and walk

The life of right, be swayed

To turn from right to wickedness

Will bring to you a death

Turn from wickedness to right

Into light of life be swept!

I will judge each one of you

According to your ways

I take no pleasure in one’s death;

O turn and live today

My Son, for wickedness has died

His righteousness will give

To those who turn and will remain;

Abide in Him and live!
