Post Resurrection Day

In grief and confusion
Unaware death would come
Though forewarned and projected
Still surprised that the one
Who would be he who rescues
Takes the matter in hand
Folks are mourning and weeping
In death, can’t understand

In gathered communion
Or retreating to home
Weeping in sadness
Where love’s presence was last known
In great fear of the people
Behind doors shut tight
Second guessing the knowledge
All could possibly come right

While stunned and afraid
Hunkered, weath’ring the storm
A few go to administer
A service perform
Upon arrival…amazed!
Alarmed, trembling with fear
When called near by name
Joy accompanies the tear

Receiving of messages
Rekindling hope
Pass on to those huddled
Some believe, doubters mope
But heart’s reignited
By message relayed
Run to prove hope’s fulfilment
Has not been delayed

With soul, spirit and mind
Still all in a whirl
The hope-filled run wild to
Where the women’s message unfurled
Rushing in, holding back
Suspicion still makes unsure
But impending visitation
Soon confirms what they saw

Conversation and reason
Slow of heart to believe
What was spoken and written
Opened up to be seen
Hearts stirring with passion
As the one whom they’ve known
Is gone in a moment
Recognised as he’s flown

When their loved one, departed,
Reappears in their midst
Invoking terror and fear
E’en while he speaks to them ‘peace’
Doubting their own eyes
And the witness of friends
They are glad when they see him
Though some don’t assent or attend

When alone some defer
To familiar scenes
Recognise the distinctive
And miraculous themes
No need to enquire
As to ‘who’, ‘cause they know
Then their thoughts are made clear
Pieced together to show

New direction for waiting
Till one will arrive
To bring discernment and comfort
To those who’ll reside
In the family of God
To bring others along
On this journey, restoring
All who’ll come, and belong

What will YOU do
With the one who was born
Lived among us, his humans
By humans, had his life torn
The one who walked, glory hidden
Gave up his breath
Then, in life new, returned
Met with those he had left?
As in the day…
Some believed what they saw
Or heard when they walked
Maybe sat on the shore;
Others doubted, suspicious
Of who their own eyes beheld
Or the voice who expounded
Stories old, new to tell
What will YOU do?
How will YOU respond?
To the one who designed you in love
Paid highly for YOU to come

When God Became One of Us

Matthew 26:36-46

From the scriptures I call the Bible, I believe that God became one of us. When Jesus as God in human form walked this earth, I see he remained God and chose to be a human living as dependent on the divine father and in community with other humans, as humans have been designed to live.

In his humanness, while approaching his mortal demise, he has brought along those closely connected with him, “Sit here, while I go and pray…” Possess this spot, this place…sit here, nearby, while I work through this heaviness with the father.

In his humanness, Jesus calls yet nearer those more intimately connected to him thus far…”Stay here and watch with me.” In this piercing and distressing walk toward mortal demise…stay, abide, endure, be present – in this place, with these things – with collected thoughts, vigilant, awakening…near to me, though I seek a space on my own with the father. Community.

As a fellow human to other humans, do you keep space alongside another – do I…do you keep alert, are you awakening to their person, their journey – am I…do you keep watch on their behalf – do I…are we community for each other…do we know that we need the ultimate divine spirit to enable us – do I?

Weighted Walking

On my return walk this morning (the downhill section!), I was overtaken by a young jogger. We said hi as she passed, just as I and the other walkers/joggers had done this morning, and I noticed she was ‘carrying’ weights – strapped to her body.

“I’m carrying weight too,” I smiled to myself. “Didn’t need to strap any extra on!”

My conversation with myself (I have many) reminded me of some race-running analogies in the Bible.

The writer of Hebrews in the New Testament has just finished a brief, condensed recap of some of Israel’s biographical history. The personal stories of men, women, their families and descendants who hopefully-endured, waited, sat under and with their circumstances or calls to action. Trusting in God’s proven faithfulness to them in life on earth, and their having faith that he will fulfil all future promises.

Chapter twelve of Hebrews begins with a call, an invitation, a compelling, a challenge to us in light of such historical proves of God’s faithfulness and promise-keeping.

We are challenged to cast off and lay aside every bulging, bending, aching, all-encompassing weight and sin which would keep us from hitting the target, the mark, and receiving the prize of the unencumbered life eternal in unhindered loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. A life purchased at great cost to him and the son of God through whom we have access to this unencumbered life. A life which begins here on this earth and finds its fulfilment in the hereafter.

And what is the mark, the target, the prize we aim for and will receive if we’re actually/honestly searching…himself, God himself (Hebrews ch. 11 v 6). When it’s him we seek, it is himself he rewards us with.

And this was written for those who live after Christ Jesus has come, providing all that is necessary for us to reach the target. Before Jesus walked the earth as God in human flesh, in the Old Testament of the Bible, Jeremiah ch. 29 v10-14 (29:10-14), Israel were told that he (God) will be found by those who seek for, search out, the Lord with their whole self…current and future promises assured, and freedom from the ties that bind and constrict us. Ties keeping us from the mark and the loving relationship with him that awaits.

Is the weight that bulges, encompasses, constricts and binds you something you have strapped on? Are there unnecessary/unrequired things that you have taken on, mull over, slowing you down and skewing the view and scope of your direction?

Is this weight that keeps you from hitting your mark, skewing your aim for the person of Jesus and loving relationship with him and his people, something you ingest (like my carried extra weight), imbibe, devour?

Throw them off!

Lay them aside!

And Hebrews 11 not only tells us who the mark is, but how to aim and fly so that we make it to him…faith…”that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”

If you’re interested, here is a poem I wrote about The Mark

Joseph

Self-evidently standing tall
In equity displayed for all
Keeps in mind his person’s person
Reserved of spectacle’s decision
Wills to fully free his own
Impassioned, sits till path is known

Contradict your swelling fear
Take to you, your person near
Protect her from the path of death
The one she’ll Bare’s of sacred breath
Take this road that’s travelled less
This road toward your God is blessed

Envisioned message – awakening!
Till time fulfilled – forwarding
Committed to – arrang-ed way
Realisation – amidst the fray
Receiving near – beloved one
Not knowing all – till all is done

Made manifest by laying forth
Awakening message shows the course
Of fleeing with beloved two
Where timely safety will ensue
Then staying where and as you are
Till called to travel life’s next path

Letter to Joseph

My Dear Brother Joseph,

I want to thank you for walking closely with our God, The LRD JHWH.

Thank you for seeking to live equitably…before you knew what your family life would be.

Thank you for sitting with your impassioned self when unsure and thrust into an unexpected life course. Thank you for sitting with your own impassioned experience, so much so that you could and would consider the affects on another.

Thank you for your willingness to fully free the one others would have rejected, disregarded, shamed, or even killed – even though you were faced with circumstances and explanations that seemed unbelievable.

Thank you for heeding the messengers and messages from YHWH. Thank you for your willingness to deny your fear and draw Mary, your betrothed, to yourself.

Thank you for waiting out the continued unknowingness of your circumstances, relationship/s and life path to their fullness of time. Thank you for seeing things through, as YHWH directed, and to completion.

Thank you for being you, and being you in all your circumstances. I realise you were human, just as I am – you were not perfect and faltered and missed YHWH’s mark. But you measured yourself against Him, returning to keep step.

I thank you for allowing yourself to decrease as Christ Jesus, whom you helped to parent, increased…and before Mary’s cousin, John, had said he would do so.

Thank you for helping to parent one who was not your own, and who still had his own engaged parents, even before I did such a thing.

Essentially, I thank you for walking the life of ever-increasing knowledge, wisdom, obedience and growth in and toward our designer, redeemer, restorer, provider and LRD. By choosing this, you were ready, not yet perfected, but ready for each step YHWH asked you to take. Thank you for looking, seeing, hearing, trusting and modelling for me the WAY of life dependant on the saviour of our souls – as life was designed to be.

A distant sister, with gratefulness

Ephesians 2:10-22 (esp v13)

Old Song:

Though we once were far away

Now we have been brought near

Through the blood of Jesus Christ

He is our peace

We are poetry in motion

Creation spoken into form

Fit for God’s good purpose

Whether sunshine or a storm

But we wandered! We were aimless!

Then an alien in his land

Strangers to the promises

Without hope! We could not stand

Though our wand’ring took us far

His Christ has drawn us near

The purchase price? His blood!

Now peace dispels our fear

Colossians

Colossians 1 and 2

Delivered from darkness

To a kingdom of love

Redeemed and forgiv’n

By the purchase of God

The Father full-pleased

And the Son fully God

Bring a balanced account

Making peace, the Son’s blood

We preach and we teach

Warn every woman and man

In the wisdom of Christ

Present perfected to stand

The body of Christ

Holds the Godhead replete

As he rules over all

We, in him, are complete

Colossians 3 and 4

United with Christ

Into life from above

We set our minds where he is

Be like our Father of love

Called out in love

To be shared, fully changed

Settle into kind compassion

With gentle patience arranged

Bear each, the other

Release in favour, the one

Who has struggled against you

As with us, the Saviour has done

And whatever we do

Or whenever we speak

With a heart that is thankful

It’s Jesus’ will that we seek

Being devoted and watchful

And thankful in prayer

Look for God’s open door,

Proclaim Christ’s mystery there (21/6/2020)

Sin…is not wrong doing, it is wrong being, deliberate and emphatic independence of God…

Independence of our designer, creator and restorer.

As was mentioned today; a $50 note that has fallen in the toilet, the kitty litter, the mud, or anywhere else that would make it dirty, would still be of value to me. So is our value to Jesus, no matter how dirty our independence of Him has made us.

If Jesus was kept from death, I would have been kept from life.

Does God have to reveal Himself as I determine, for me to believe Him; or do I believe Him because of how and who He has already revealed Himself to be?

It was my sin that held Him there, until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life, I know that it is finished.
