Reflecting on Matthew 8:5-13
The centurion’s statement of faith was about who Jesus is and who he himself was in the light of that knowledge.
His request was for healing.
His statement of faith was about who Jesus is.
Michael Card – Scribbling In The Sand
But Jesus is more than his gifts…He wants to give…himself.
…Jesus, already having given all he could, seeks out men and women to see them again, to touch them and be touched by them
Who am I now, who will I be, who was it that I once was?
Created, refined, renewed, somehow changed.
A remarkable journey, unseen.
Backward glance, mindful now, vision forward.
Partial past-sense, present life-blood, future veiled.
Confusion, understanding, mysterious.
I was different, I’m the same, I will be…

…the Bible shows us who we really are. It tells us who we are without Jesus and who we are if we are devoted to Jesus.
When we read the Bible we see our true selves reflected back to us. We see ourselves with all our faults and failures and all that we can be in Jesus.
So if we forget what we hear from God’s word, and if we fail to do what it says, we are really forgetting who we actually are.
