Refuge

Refuge Rock

 Rock as refuge

Dense, unmoved

Crevice rest

Curl up, subdued

Bask in sunlight

Serene and warm

Encompassed in

That worn by storm

  1. Long-ago, climbing down a cliff, I fell. Somehow came to rest in a scoop, shaped, I’d guess, like this. Looking down, another six or seven metres, to fall. (I see it, haunting still). But there was room enough to stand. My mates sent down a rope. I climbed out. Sixty years ago, and still I wonder at the beautiful “rock as refuge.” Glad to meet you, then, Rock. Glad to meet your relative now. Gratitude!
